Private Lessons * Vocal Coaching * Performance

Picture
Music Notes Jackson is a local business located in Jackson, Michigan offering lessons in the arts.We focus mainly on Piano, Voice, Voice for Musical Theater, Stage Presence and Beginning Theory.  Music Notes is owned and operated by local resident Andrea Wynn - Chatfield. Private lessons are beneficial to everyone, no matter the age or skill set. Music Note’s mission is to help individuals develop their talents while teaching life lessons at the same time. Responsibility, self-gratification, accountability, and personal confidence are just a few of the benefits of joining our group. I promote students to strive and believe in their uniqueness while never limiting oneself. All areas of music are covered from Country, Pop, Opera, Musical Theater, Folk, Classical, and more.

There  are two performances a year. We do a Christmas Concert as well as a Spring Concert  where students get to show off all of their hard work for friends and family. Every year, we have a theme for our spring recital. Students are involved in the process of picking out their music. They learn about the composer, what was happening in the world at that time, why the song was written, and how best to relate to and perform each piece.  All I ask of my students is to grow both as musicians and people. I hope for everyone to walk out of my studio with a smile on their face, a seed of knowledge in their brain, and an anticipation for their next lesson.

Music Notes Experience is your community theater outlet. We are rich in the arts here in Jackson. Our goal with MNE is to provide the educational tools needed to grow on stage as well as off. We offer many weekend workshops teaching everything from stage etiquette to makeup classes. Stagecraft to light and sound engineering. We want to teach the community how to do theater and offer a "how to guide" through the magic of live theater.

Throughout the year, we do cabarets with the community, take trips to see live shows, offer workshops, and educate in the arts. We make everything affordable and accessible while teaching the entire time.

M
usic Notes was founded by local area resident, Andrea Wynn - Chatfield. Andrea has over 24 years of musical experience. She achieved her piano skills through 12 years of classical training, and over the last 14 years, has branched out by performing with musical theater. She has taken part in "Bye Bye Birdie", "Seussical the Musical", "Bare: A pop Opera", "They're Playing Our Song", "A..My Name is Alice", along with other productions. She played the Alto Sax and Oboe for over 8 years, including playing with the Jackson Youth Symphony. She has also vocally performed on the stage with shows such as "Fiddler on the Roof", "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", "Ragtime", "Glee: A Tribute Show", "Legally Blonde" and many other voice recitals and local cabarets.

In 2015 she was named one of Jackson Magazine's 30 under 30. Since she opened Music Notes in 2013,  she has also started Music Notes Experience, a non-profit organization with a mission of making the arts more accessible to our community while striving to maintain a high standard quality product. The Jackson Area Music Movement or J.A.M.M. was next. This is a small ensemble of vocalist who perform in the community at all different functions and sing all styles and genres of music. This year is the year of education. She has been working with her board to develop theater workshops open to the community and the grand finale is to get a musical up!

Being just over 30, and having a small business that is growing and being successful is quite an accomplishment. I have been involved with music since I was six years old. Having thirteen years of classical piano lessons, six years of both Alto Saxophone and Oboe, twelve years of vocal training and over ten years of theory I have a solid background in music. I have taken my love for music and applied it to helping out in the community with musicals and melodramas as well as playing weddings and other events.

Music Notes is special. Too many times there is a mold that everyone is tried to form to. I relish the idea of being unique and different and I encourage students to be themselves. Music is not like math where there is one formula that solves everything. Every student is different and each student should feel like an individual in their art. All students are encouraged to try new styles and techniques until they find their niche. Bouncing from teacher after teacher, I knew that I wanted to offer my students a wide variety of options; never did I want to limit their creativity. I take pride in being a well versed musician and performer and I want all of my students to have that option as well. If we limit ourselves to a certain title, than we limit our learning and ultimately our success. My goal growing up was to never have a piece of music placed in front of me that I could not perform. My goal now is to erase the fear of failing from my students minds and replace it with the confidence of success.
